The Nystagmus Network is a registered charity in England and Wales supporting people living with nystagmus. Nystagmus is a complex eye condition, characterised by involuntary movements of the eye. The eyes appear to wobble or flicker from side to side, up and down or round and round, affecting the ability to focus, recognise faces and see the world in 3D. At least 1 in 1,000 people have nystagmus. There is no cure, currently.

The charity was founded in 1984 by Vivien Jones after her son was diagnosed with nystagmus when he was 3 months old and has grown exponentially from very humble beginnings to the hi-tech digital online presence of today. It has been at the forefront in promoting a better understanding of nystagmus as well as funding research to find effective treatments. The charity offers the opportunity to get as much information about the condition as possible and, through its support services, ensures that, following diagnosis, there is somewhere for a family to turn to.

Overview

The Nystagmus Network is seeking an additional Information Support Officer to support the Nystagmus Network’s charitable objectives, provide back office and administrative support to the operational running of the charity and contribute to business continuity.

You will have a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion in the way we reach out to people in every aspect of our work.

Job Description

  • support the annual awareness day, fundraising campaigns and charity events year round through promoting, reporting, sourcing merchandise, mail outs and record keeping
  • provide reliable, efficient and effective administrative support 
  • manage, maintain and keep updated relevant areas of the NPSP SalesForce CRM
  • deal with general, non support type enquiries to the charity via email and social media (signposting to the website, charity information documents, other support services and organisations, etc)
  • log and pass on promptly any enquiries which need attention by others, assuring correspondents of our soonest possible attention
  • With guidance, prepare articles and documents for publication
  • source value for money quotations for merchandise, printed information, stationery or office consumables; manage orders
  • deal promptly with invoices, checking their accuracy and passing them on to the Treasurer for payment
  • collate data sets and conduct desk research as directed
  • compile and contribute to monthly reports as required
  • ensure office cover and day to day business as usual in times of colleague absence
  • attend quarterly meetings with the Committee of Trustees in London, annual Open Day, Nystagmus Awareness Day and fundraising events as required
  • develop relevant knowledge and skills in order to carry out duties, attending training where needed
  • ensure your own health and safety at work
  • work only in accordance with charity guidelines and policies
  • protect the reputation of the charity at all times

Person specification

QualificationsFull level 2 qualifications, including English and Maths GCSE grade C or above 
ExperienceOffice administration  Work in the charity sector in a support or office role; organising events
IT skillsProficient in the full Microsoft office suite; competence in the use of social media for business purposesExperience of working with a CRM, using WordPress, Mailchimp and Shopify, digital marketing skills
CommunicationDemonstrable proficiency in written and verbal skills; a keen eye for detailProofreading experience
