Through my work and studies, I have shown that a disability like nystagmus does not define what a person can achieve.
I was born with congenital nystagmus and am partially sighted. Growing up in Nottinghamshire, I was often told what I could not achieve because of my condition. Determined to prove otherwise, I pursued my independence, moving to the city to
build a career and life on my own terms.
Today, I work as a British Sign Language interpreter and have achieved an MSc in Language Sciences (Sign Language and Deaf Studies). I am currently in the process of publishing my first academic paper, based on research I conducted using eye-tracking technology to better understand facial recognition and scanning behaviours among those fluent in sign language.
