Volunteering opportunities

We’re a small charity with big ideas – be part of our journey.

If you have the skills and time to give for just a couple of hours a month to support the work of the Nystagmus Network, we’d love to hear from you. Whether you’d like to provide IT support, flex your digital skills, support our social media posts, help with fundraising or organise some local get togethers, please get in touch.

All volunteer appointments are subject to a basic DBS check.

Thank you

Trustee

Are you looking for a new opportunity to use your energy, time, skills and talent? The Nystagmus Network is recruiting trustees to guide and direct the charity’s work.

The skills, talent and experience the Nystagmus Network is interested in are:

  • Governance
  • Income generation and fundraising
  • Special Educational Needs
  • Mental Health support
  • Financial control
  • Social Impact
  • Campaigning

The minimum time commitments are one full Saturday four times a year, an evening or daytime phone call every 6 weeks, attendance at beneficiary events and support for Nystagmus Awareness Day. Trustees also have legal responsibilities under charity law.

We are particularly interested in applications from people with lived experience of nystagmus. So, if you have congenital or acquired nystagmus yourself or are the parent/carer or other family member of someone living with nystagmus, we’d love you to join us to help shape our future support or awareness-raising strategy.

Representing members of the nystagmus community you will steer our services towards those who need them most, help us prioritise our resources and make a real difference to quality of life. Please apply to be a trustee by email to [email protected]

Our trustee appointment process includes a written application, then an informal chat with members of the charity team via Zoom or in person, followed by an in person meeting with at least one current trustee. There is then a short induction period. All volunteer appointments are subject to our volunteer role terms and condition. Please see below.

Could you help set up and run a local nystagmus group?

Would you like to help us set up and run a local nystagmus support group in your area? As a first step, please tell us a little more about you (or feel free to send a CV) and how you would go about leading a local group. You can email us at [email protected]

Would you like to be a volunteer telephone befriender?

The Nystagmus Network is setting up a small team of volunteer telephone befrienders. Following successful completion of a short training course and induction, you will be assigned one or two people living with nystagmus to call once a week. If you’d like to be considered for this important role please email a copy of your CV and a short covering letter at [email protected]
