Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio, USA has received a $2 million research endowment from the Knights Templar Eye Foundation to expand its work in paediatric eye disorders. The hospital will match the gift with an additional $2 million, bringing the total to $4 million.
The funding will support research in Akron Children’s eye movement recording lab, which houses more than 18,000 eye movement recordings — the largest collection of its kind in the world.
Researchers will use the funding to build on existing work studying eye movements and pupil reactions, particularly in patients with nystagmus. This will ensure continuation on the work of Dr Richard Hertle, an internationally renowned nystagmus expert.
