In 2023 the Nystagmus Network received a legacy gift from the late Mrs Rhoda Clarke in the sum of £32,114. 71
The gift was made in the name of Mrs Clarke’s great niece, Florence (pictured above) who has albinism and nystagmus.
Aunt Rhoda wanted to leave something in her will that might benefit Florence and other children like her in their future so the family have asked us to invest her gift in nystagmus research.
The Nystagmus Network has been inviting applications for a Legacy Grant of up to £32,000. Applications were open to UK institutions only, focusing on infantile nystagmus, including that linked with ocular albinism. Projects were required to demonstrate innovative thinking or a new approach.
The assessment panel for all applications will be Jay Self, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Associate Professor and John Vekinis, Nystagmus Network trustee and Ophthalmologist with another to be appointed once applications are received. The final decision will rest with the charity research committee.
The closing date for submissions is Friday 6 December and the charity hopes to share news of the winning bid early in the New Year.
